Hello incoming students!
My name is Robyn, and I am your Vice President, Communications!
Just wanted to give you a heads up that there is an unreal Orientation being planned for your class come September.
Here’s the sitch: You’ll start school after Labour Day, but won’t dive right into your proper classes. You’ll have two weeks of Legal Process, a pass/fail course designed to introduce you to the world of legal study and uVic’s program. At the same time, your friendly neighbourhood Law Students’ Society runs a truly impressive slate of Orientation activities. The delightful duo of Debbie Preston and Sarah Jackson are in charge, and they are positively crushing it. Here are some of the Orientation events that you can look forward to:
- An “Amazing Race”- style scavenger hunt around Victoria (no copyright infringement intended)
- A Gala at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club
- Billiards night
- Thrift Shop Bingo
- A Soccer grudge match against the Law Faculty
- An Introduction to the implementation of the findings of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission
- Informal revelry at the Bay Street Armoury
First year orientation is a fantastic opportunity to get to know your classmates and the upper-year law students! Whether or not you’ve heard of the uVic difference, Orientation will be your first chance to experience it first hand.
Your LSS executive is super pumped to meet you all, but in the meantime, I hope that you are having a lovely and restful summer. Please do not hesitate to reach out to any of the LSS officers if you have any questions, queries, or curiosities about law school; and please, PLEASE get STOKED for September.
Yours in aggressive collegiality,
