Congrats and welcome to UVic Law! My name is Laura Edwards and I’m the President of the Law Students’ Society (LSS) for the 2018-2019 school year.
If you are anything like I was coming into my first year of law school, you are probably feeling a bit apprehensive and unsure of what to expect. Don’t worry! You are going to have a great time and the LSS is here to make your time at UVic Law the best it can be. We organize countless events and recreational activities that cater to everyone’s interests; from sporting events to live performances by your fellow students you can look forward to having a life outside of the law library. We are also here to support you when the pressures of law school start to mount and can connect you to health and wellness resources.
Our fantastic 1L Representatives have put together an exciting Orientation Week for you filled with plenty of fun events designed for you to get to know your classmates. I recommend that you participate in these events. Besides being a whole lot of fun, these events will provide you with the opportunity to connect with your fellow incoming 1L’s and upper years; connecting to other law students is the best way to help with any nerves you might have about starting law school and will introduce you to your new community.
Congratulations again. You have chosen to join a passionate and diverse student body and we can’t wait to meet you! I personally look forward to meeting you on the first day of classes and I hope to see you out at some of the upcoming Orientation Week events. In the meantime, if you have any questions you can contact me or any LSS member.
See you in September!
President, University of Victoria Law Students’ Society
